Armies of kung fu fighters. A mutated wookie. People firing lightning bolts from their hands. A man who can walk through walls. Magic potions. Monsters. Strange ceremonies. A floating head, blob, eyeball thing. Highly destructable scenery. Sorcerors who fire light out of their eyes and mouths. Mystical battles. Battles of a less mystical and more lead-orientated nature. Huge ominous green clouds. The most awesome last scene imaginable. It is great fun - do I really have to say any more?
Carpenter's late-in-the-day _Raiders_ provides minor fun, with good FX, music, and wide-screen photography, but keeps mistaking rampant stupidity for a genuine sense of humor. Not as annoying as _Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom_ but no _Escape from New York_, either.
I love Kurt Russell movies as much as the next guy, especially when he teams with Carpenter. But I happened to miss this 80s classic, and having viewed it recently, I didn't enjoy it on the same level as its many die-hard fans. It is total camp drizzled with cheese to an extreme factor, and to my disappointment I didn't see this film at a younger age when it would've undoubtedly had a greater impact for me.
A perfect mix of action and comedy, filled with cool moments and immensely quotable dialogue. The film rattles along at a fast pace and Kurt Russell is a lot of fun to watch as Jack Burton, a classic blowhard character who think's he's much smarter than he is. Big Trouble is pretty much the definition of cult movie. Sure you could pick apart aspects of the plot, but really it's so much fun and doesn't take itself seriously enough for it to be an issue, after all, it's all in the reflexes.
K.Russell is just brilliant being badass wannabe and besides amazingly hilarious series of scenes that makes this film just awesome. Acting is mediocre but for this kind of (Chinatown wars) comedy adequate. It's quite hard to see what could be better besides acting. Although being brainless it is way better than most of Jackie Chan's stuff.
