This efficient follow-up is better made and has an appealing heroine in Steel (the odds-on favorite Friday leading lady), but much of Carl Fullerton's excellent makeup work had to be cut to avoid an X rating.

Aside from being practically the same movie as the first installment -- almost to the point of being an unsubtle parody -- this features some pretty irresponsible abuse of the POV motif in its endless quest for yet another false scare.

Virtually a remake of the first film, starting with a long flashback to it; short sharp shocks punctuate slabs of tedium.

This is "the one with the crippled guy". The actors/characters are a bit better in this one, and we get our first skinny dip. The chainsaw wielding Ginny has some very memorable shots. They start building on the legend of Jason by showing his shack and his mother complex. The sack with one eye cut out worked really well too. My favorite part is when Jason moves the teapot off of the burner after killing Alice... it was a very thoughtful thing to do.

Probably the second best standalone installment (behind the self-parody of 6). It's not yet burdened with the routine, so Jason's kind of a fascinating hillbilly weirdo in this one, not a supervillain. One of the death scenes is surprisingly sad and harrowing.
