Somehow, I wish this were a rated-R hyper-stylized adult's movie (ala Coonskin), and not a sentimental, work-together typical children's story with musical numbers... I think it would be more faithful to the source material.

You've *got* to be kidding me. And I thought the cheap cartoons made in Eastern Europe in the 60's were bad. Well, they were, but this movie's not really any more redeeming. If you want Tom and Jerry, watch the shorts produced by Fred Quimby and, to a lesser extend, Chuck Jones. This movie is junk. They don't really talk... once in a while they bend that rule for a gag, but never like this.
