I'm just a sucker for these adaptations of superheroes. McAvoy and Fassbender were great, the others not so.

Typically not a fan of super hero movies, but is one was fracken good. Taking place around real events made it a little more believable for me.

This is another good chapter in the X-Men movie series. Jmaes McAvroy is a good casting choice and most of the ensemble cast does an excellent job. This movie has a lot of fun scenes and it deals with the origins of the X-Men. I would definitely recommend this movie.

I love the X-Men. The original comic book, that is. When you really think about it, X-Men revitalized the superhero film genre in 2000. So, why is it that we've all accepted that the X-Men franchise doesn't need to stay at all true to it's origin material? This is not the actual first class, that's all I'm saying. Other than that, this is a fun film. Michael Fassbender kills it while Kevin Bacon does a weird Christoph Waltz impression.

Best X-Men so far, contender for best superhero group (until The Avengers).

For a prequel to the X-Men Franchise, First Class is a reasonable movie. Solid gripping action and the charisma of McAvoy and Fassbender are the film's true saving graces. But it goes too far too fast. The film [as most 'part 1's do] should have ended on a positive note. The darker tone from the ending should have been saved for the second film in this new franchise. Aside from this flaw and some blatant action cliches, the movie delivers in terms of satisfying superhero fun.

I don't know what genius devised such an absurd plot as the X-Men playing a role in the Cuban Missile Crisis, but I am eternally grateful. While it has moments of meaningful ethical debate, the whole film is accompanied by just the right touch of hyperbole. You can't come up with a more amusingly bombastic scene than Magneto and Xavier playing chess on the steps of Lincoln Memorial and talking about tolerance. This is not only the best X-Men movie but the best superhero movie in years.

It's kind of all over the place, but it's a fun ride and the two leads are absolutely great.

It has its weak points (dodgy-looking CGI on Beast) and its confusing moments (why the hell Magneto slips into a thick Irish accent in the last ten minutes), but Fassbender, McAvoy and Lawrence are genuinely fun to watch, and Bacon's villain does a nice job of chewing the scenery in a suitably comic-book fashion. The only real failing is that there are so many characters that many of the lesser ones feel underused and lacking in purpose (if not lacking in characterisation).

Meh. Though I like Fassbender's Magneto. (Isn't it funny how a story that started out as commentary on racial inequality ends up with a movie where every. single. character who's not a WASP male either dies or turns evil?)

Michael Fassbender really is the up and coming star to watch. As a fan of the X-men series I was pleased with everything a saw. Enough characterbuild up, mixed with action. The only thing I hated were the supporting mutans. And Kevin Bacon is awesome in this one.

It's an enjoyable movie which doesn't take itself too seriously, but even given that I thought the movie was only OK.

Solid. Very solid.

The positive response to this movie must come from X-Men fans who feel like it's more true to the comic books, because otherwise I don't know how this movie could be so highly rated. The first two movies had their shortcomings, but the writing lent their stories a touch of realism (I can't speak for the 3rd movie since I haven't seen it). The writing in X-Men: First Class is annoyingly cheesy, sprinkled with moments that are downright stupid. It's like if the SyFy Channel made an X-Men movie.
