I"ve noticed quite a few Adam Sandler haters round these parts. I can't say I care for them, but I'm trying to understand the species. I for one am a fan of his movies and refuse to resort to film snobbery to prop myself up at his expense, but I can understand why some people don't like his movies. For instance, I hate Brendan Frasier. He can't act, he's not funny, and I can't think of anyone I find more annoying, nor can I think of a movie he's been in that I liked. Maybe some people feel that way about Adam, though I can't see it. Chris Farley is widely loved, and yet, his movies weren't that great (certainly not as good as Sandler's), and he had some nasty life habits, one of which lead to his death. How is Farley praised so much?
I think Sandler's a great man at least from what I can tell. He always appears humble I've heard many times he's hard working. I hate his newer comedies as much as the next guy, but I'll always cherish Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore, and Billy Madison and he's shown that he actually has acting talent in Punch-Drunk Love and Reign Over Me.

He's a great comedian. In fact, I don't know anyone who hates him. His movies suck sometimes but whose every movie is astonishing?
I like "50 First Dates" the most.

My problem with him is that almost all feel like they are just the same movie.

Re: Adam Sandler
A lot of his films are real garbage. It gets just a little repetitive when he keeps making goofy voices and faces. The exception to this being when it totally worked in Billy Madison. His recent work is better without all that excessive wackiness. Another comedian who benefits from abandoning that is Jim Carrey.
Anger Management worked because for once Sandler was the straight man who was being played against the wacky Jack Nicholson. 50 First Dates worked because he was playing the guy who tried to charm the girl the whole time, which was an endearing change.
Like Jim Carrey, though, his best work is when he goes more dramatic a la Punch-Drunk Love.

Re: Adam Sandler
He's not bad, simply repetitive. He always, especially in his comedies, plays the same character. It's why Punch Drunk Love and reign over me are such better films than all of his other schlock-he broke away from what he's used to playing and it showed that he actually has ranger and versitility as an actor. It's just the issue of all of his comedies being exactly the same, with simply the character's names and professions changed that I think cause the hate.
I don't go out of my way to avoid him, but I certainly don't search for him. I don't understand the hate, but I don't see him as a revolutionary actor by any stretch of the imagination.

Re: Adam Sandler
I dislike him strongly because of the fact that he seems to play the same damn character in every film. And it's not even a likable character, he just plays an arrogant guy who thinks he's funny when he's not. Some of the jokes in Click, for instance, made me groan out loud because they were so bad.
This bit, for instance:
Ben at 7-Years-Old: [Sundance begins humping the stuffed duck] Hey, look at Sundance wrestling his duck.
Michael Newman: No, no, that's not wrestling. That's... Something you shouldn't know about for another 10 to 30 years.
[Points at son, Ben]
Michael Newman: Ten for you...
[Points at daughter, Samantha]
Michael Newman: ...Thirty for you.
Who thinks this is funny? I mean.. Come on. This is insulting in all kinds of ways. It's all like this. He's not really bad in any way, he's just one of the most uninspired comedians who have managed to somehow get ridiculously popular, and that pisses people off, me included.
