6/64: Mama und Papa (Materialaktion Otto Mühl)

That was certainly something. The rapid fire editing provides an interesting pacing and makes you often ask yourself if what you think you just saw is what you really saw. Of course, there's a limit to how interesting this is when you know that whatever you just saw was some variation of naked people smothered in food and dirt.

At the beginning this is a very interesting film edited as abrasively as the graphic and taboo busting performance pieces depicted. As it goes on though, it loses some of its power. While it was a weaker film, the extended scenes in the Dusan Makavejev film Sweet Movie where Otto Muhl and his associates cameo is a far better depiction of the images they were trying to push forward.

amos vogel's treat for us this time is a fast-cutting montage of people pissing on bodies covered in food and blood or whatever, among other weird shit. apparently there was an art movement called actionism, and this was one of its main film entries. i prefer [sweet movie], which also featured otto muehl, apparently. huh.
