Blue Story

I was actually into the drama between these ex-friends and their gangs. It touches a little bit on the grim reality of gangs, I wish these movies would go more in depth sometimes, but it was still entertaining. I can't give this higher than a 75 because of the way it's presented. I haven't seen Rapman's YouTube series, and the songs themselves are pretty good, but man he undercuts the emotion by randomly dropping in and explaining/recapping. Cut that shit, then it's a great movie.

Effectively brutal view of gang life doesn't cover any ground not already covered by the contingent of African-American film-makers - explicit tips of the hat by Rapman to Spike Lee and John Singleton are sometimes effective but often distracting (especially the rap interludes, which are not developed well enough to be anything other than a distraction). The freshness of the milieu and the impassioned performances help a lot, enough to undercut the sad predictability of the drama.
