Emperor

Average slave movie with Dayo Okeniyi on the run. Feels like a slim budget, but there is a heart there. It's just that what's here has been done better many times elsewhere. James Cromwell adds a little dignity to it.

I'm a big fan of historical stories in movies, but Emperor brings up the whole point between 'historical story' and 'based on historical story'. I guess I just feel that unless you go completely into the fantastical, I don't see the point of taking a piece of history and then distorting it for entertainment value. It's a decent movie, but the production value seems cheap here. Also, changing the outcome of a major historical battle felt so weird.
