End of Sentence

Heartfelt road trip drama, with some nice reveals, and a couple genuine laugh out loud moments. Well acted, character arcs all around, impactful moments, an emotional payoff at the end. This is an underseen gem.

Now imagine if the characterizations had been swapped: straight-laced mama's boy Logan Lerman takes edgy ex-con John Hawkes on a road trip to scatter his mother's ashes. Much more dynamic!

A tiresome story about the tentative bonding between an honorable but wimpy father and his rebellious convict son. The final straw for me was when the father said he couldn't drive a stick shift. Some people might find this compelling or heartfelt, but to me, it was weak, slow, and sometimes boring. It was difficult to appreciate either of these characters. Even the girl they meet along the way turned out to be some kind of scumbag. Not particularly worthwhile but not altogether horrible either.
