Done in a similar style to the musical duo's TV show "The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour", this film is more a series of unconnected skits and parodies than a single running plot. When Sonny gets offered a role in a movie, he talks Cher into giving it a try. The proposed script, however, turns out to be awful, but in order to get out of doing this stinker of a project, Sonny has just ten days to come with his own better script. (imdb)

Friedkin's debut only deepens the mysteries fuelling the following questions: 1)How did Sonny Bono become famous?, and 2)How in the _hell_ did he get Cher? Ah the 60s! What a glorious time!

Bizarre 60s camp-fest is not quite campy enough to be truly entertaining, but Cher and Bono's likability, plus appearance by villianous Sanders, makes it worthwhile, as well as knowing that this was William Friedkin's directorial debut! Climactic private eye sequence works the best.

Painfully bad.

What an odd cultural curiosity... Not good, by any means, but not exactly awful. One certainly wishes it were campier, yet there is an innocence captured here (I suspect it was partly the times) that's quite unexpected and ultimately winning. George Sanders tucks the picture neatly in in his pocket and struts off with it.
