Ham on Rye

There are some unusual/interesting musical choices that are off the beaten path. There is plenty of decent framing, leading to some memorable shots, but then occasionally Taormina doesn't let them breathe. Which is also strange because sometimes he lets shots linger too much. Uneven but mostly great directorial effort. Plot meanders more than it should, but has some intrigue. An odd atmosphere looms over all and while it doesn't quite deliver by the end, I still enjoyed this somewhat.

A unique and quite weird movie about high-school life, status and relationships. The film is split into two very different parts, and you can feel the built-up mystery and tension slowly deflating throughout the second half. It is very much on purpose and fits the themes of the movie, but it's not exactly riveting to watch.

This film is just a bunch of pretentious vignettes thrown together with no cohesion or substance. I'd be more forgiving if it at least had some artistic merit, but it's lacking there as well. This film has absolutely nothing to say and serves no purpose. Boring, uninspired nonsense.
