Hands of the Ripper

Giant fish bowl with scraps of paper in it: “jack the ripper” “mystery” “bosom”. okay that’s all I need time to make us a Hammer film.

With a synopsis like that i was shocked this wasn't pure schlock. Its hammer so we know the atmosphere will be spot on, but it gives us at least a little complexity in its characters, especially the troubled murderess. The plot moves nicely and i actually maintained a curiosity as to what might happen next. The ending is beautiful mostly in the images on screen but it also fits the gothic story well. A movie to remind us that hammer had pleasant gems as well as camp and cheese
