Hot Air

Hot Air applies RomCom clichés to a comedy about family. Not Coogan's A-game, but he's still fun to watch. Russell has good chemistry with him, while Campbell delivers the best performance in the film. The rest of the characters are a little one-dimensional. Nothing is ground-breaking, as the film goes through the trope-filled motions, but the theme of learning to admit when you're wrong was decently implemented. I had issues with the mother in the 3rd act but overall it's an entertaining film.

I wouldn't normally review a film I've not watched the whole way through, but I couldn't finish this. Humourless to the point I wasn't sure if it was billed as a comedy or not. You could get the point just from the synopsis. I'm a big Coogan fan and I was hoping for an Armando Iannucci-esque satire and parody but this was well short of that. It doesn't even have a wikipedia page, to give you an idea of how insignificant it is.

Overall, you'll probably feel the same way if you just walk repeatedly into a closed door for a little while futily hoping to get to the other side, and you won't waste 100 minutes doing it.
