I can just imagine the nightmare scenario of watching this in a cinema packed full of Boomers laughing their heads off at every lame joke. Brosnan, Thompson, Spall and Imrie are all perfectly capable actors, so the blame must lie with Hopkins as the writer and director. But, it's not all bad, the inebriated waiter at least provides some properly funny moments.

I was surprised that Emma Thompson would be in something this bad--and it just got sillier as it dragged on.

Really enjoyable heist movie with a difference. The character relationships are a joy to watch and the comedy is really suttle but incredibly effective. Everyone looked like they had a blast making this movie and it really comes across on screen.

Llight weight geriatric rom com which hovers between mildly amusing and mildly irritating.

I saw it in a biweekly cine club for seniors. I did not know which movie was going to be shown that week. As a movie comparing with other movies, I would give it less than 20 points. But if I concede that the genre is goofy, within that genre is quite entertaining. Within that genre I would give it 70 points. If you have some 2 hours to waste, and not a wide selection to choose from, you can do worse than this movie.

Taken on its own terms, The Love Punch isn't horrible. It knows it's goofy, dumb and makes very little sense; the cast embrace the silliness and make good with the slapstick, the sarcasm, the pratfalls and the banter. But acknowledging your flaws doesn't make up for them, and the sheer absurdity of some sequences here - including a cringe-inducing sequence wherein Brosnan and Thompson's son "hacks" a hotel and, later, a bank - really grates. Sporadically fun, more frequently groan-worthy.
