It's about a five member family. The father is a conservative and traditional person who directs the family. The mother is at home, she tries to hold together the family, while Mr. Bridge works as a lawyer. The children have just grown up, and the complications are derived from that they have a more modern view of life. (imdb)

A horrible script from the normally pleasant Jhabvala/Ivory/Merchant batch of films. I can't exactly put my finger on what's so wrong, it is oddly fragmented in pacing, but nothing's terribly off-putting. I was just thoroughly bored for its entire runtime. Paul Newman happens to encapsulate a character less likable than his early film, Hud, but also infinitely less interesting.

Most Merchant/Ivory films are character studies, which devote more time to the people in their stories than plot. This meandering plodder is a prime example. The acting is very fine indeed - Paul Newman especially stands out - but not a lot actually happens. Consequently, unless you watch movies specifically to watch the performances, I'd wager that this is going to be a bit of a yawnfest.

Very nicely done. Mr. and Mrs. Newman here remind me of my own parents

DVDRip no MakingOff.

Got so bored - it was like a very very dull episode of retro big brother house.
