A charming & romantic Austrian classic full of astounding natural scenery and colorful pageantry of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Romy Schneider is perfectly cast as Elisabeth. A forgotten gem.

The Sissi trilogy has the most beautiful costumes I've ever seen (though admittedly not quite historically accurate, they're a mix of 1800s and 1950s). The pacing is quite slow, and the English subs leave something to be desired depending on where you're watching. We found the sub track on Kanopy to be better than on Amazon.

25/12/2009: beautiful for its time, but if you're not aware of its old age (and the customs that were appriopriate back then), you'll probably miss the beauty and see it as a regular lovestory
