Sunset

A period mystery-thriller unlike anything I've seen. For one, a female protagonist at the center of something so noirishly fatalistic is new; it's a perfect fit, though. The slow, unraveling exposition coupled with those suffocatingly close-up bokeh tracking shots (that he used to such great effect in "Son of Saul") are uniquely suited to describe the predicament of women in a time of war and imperial decadence; The persuasively stark contrast between Irisz's determination and her powerlessness.

Shot much in the same way as Son of Saul. The big difference is, that there is no one to root for in a rather thin story stretched over too many minutes. Very disappointing.
