The Big Take

This was no so much a thriller as it is a situation comedy. The story is convoluted and has a somewhat amusing twist. Performances seemed believable except for the female fixer. Much of the intended drama fell a bit short of satisfaction. The story plods along with plenty of upbeat music, lots of mistaken intentions and mostly unremarkable characters. Somewhat worth watching.

Dull throwback to the "late 90s Tarantino knock-off" genre has an overly complicated and too busy landscape, along with an odd habit of suddenly dropping established characters and switching focus. Seems to want to be hard edged and cynical ala GET SHORTY but mostly falls flat thanks to a disinterested cast (only Hedaya seems to be having any fun as a mob guy fixer); McCaffrey is never believable as a Beatty/Redford type Hollywood bigwig, and the blackmail plot makes little sense.
