The Good Son: The Life of Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini

Never really grabbed me. And I'm a big boxing fan.

Mancini was always a better story than boxer, fulfilling his father's war-deferred dreams with a carefully arranged career and big payoff for the privilege of dethroning a tin champion. In '82 he faced a no. 1 contender who had no business as such, been similarly stage-managed, and killed him. This film ignores the men behind the curtain and the tougher truer ironies but is pretty compelling as myth maintenance and the meeting between Mancini and Kim's family slightly above human-interest-story.
