The Happy Prince

Fascinatingly hazy portrait of Wilde's last days is a solid triumph for Everett as writer-director-star; while there are times when the storytelling becomes muddled and even confusing, it does bring a vivid sense of a feverish death-bed fantasy, which may actually be the point. Everett's performance as the charming, witty gadfly gone hideously to seed is at times painful to watch, and the supporting cast is peopled with fine character pieces, especially from Morgan and Firth.

A few memorable conversations, but generally fairly fascinating, given that you have a knowledge of Oscar Wilde. The story is inevitable. Every single one of the empathetic characters accepts that they are on a doomed, inevitable, meeting with "the real Oscar" (especially Oscar) that there is only room for the movie to say "and Oscar was really ..." A few memorable scenes but generally fairly dull and assumes a knowledge of Oscar Wilde , that possibly the average film watcher wont possess, and as such the story is confusing., and I had no empathy with any of the characters. Brilliantly acted by Everett.
