This Tom Forman production of Owen Wister novel is solid making it work alright, but since it's a story based more on the man than on the action it needs a lot of finesse to make it work to perfection, which this does not. In fact it's well known supporting actor Russell Simpson that steals the picture away from Kenneth Harlan, with the leading man not really shining as strong as one could've hoped. It's definitely not a bad version, just lacks that something special for it to stand out.
