Walking and Talking

Walking and Talking is in some sort of indie grey area for me. It's not as refined as an Anderson, Baumbach, or Stillman movie, but it also doesn't have the low budget realness of the later Mumblecore scene. Fortunately the cast is for the most part able to elevate the average filmmaking. The one weak link of course being Todd Field/Frank. Ultimately there are better indie movies to check out from this era, but it still kinda fun as a bit of mid 90's cultural voyeurism.

Charming, and hits emotional notes that were aimed for. A product of the Seinfeld era, and like that, aims low but is put together well. Good, if basic.

The film never really "gets going" to the point where you get wrapped up in it. Then near the end you realize why: you're watching a bunch of immature people struggle with life because they refuse (or don't know how) to grow up. Nor does the script.

A somewhat predictable but overall enjoyable film about what it takes to maintain a friendship.

It's kind of like the longest and dullest episode of Girls ever, except with Gen X yuppies instead of Millennial yuppies. Which is to say, it's inoffensive but bland. The cast is pretty good, although i have to admit Keener doesn't really work for me as a likable, sympathetic protagonist for whatever reason.
