Walking on Sunshine

Caught an awful version of a not-very good song I've heard countles times, not my sort of thing.

"Hits of the 80's" variation of Mamma Mia! (2008), without what made that movie such a guilty pleasure. Watching major movie stars make a complete ass of themselves singing corny songs. These actors however are not above this type of material so it doesn't have that same cheesy destructive appeal. The type of movie one is forced to watch because of a girl....

You could criticize this for pretty much everything it is and does. It's a pretty poor production. But after the first 2 atrocious songs I really started to enjoy myself, and it's a perfectly serviceable and occasionally impressive musical. It's clear they at least tried. It's no Mamma Mia.

An exercise in silly jukebox tedium. The plot and characters are wafer-thin, a mere afterthought. The songs are fun from time to time, but autotune plays too major a role in proceedings, and the transitions out of songs back to dialogue are very weak. Greg Wise is kinda funny, though, and Leona Lewis is far better an actress than I'd anticipated.
