Redemption. (Of the main character.) Movies like Grosse Pointe Blank count, but movies like Shawshank Redemption (keke) don't, as the main character never really sullies himself.

The Fugitive is in the same boat as Shawshank, the man redeems his reputation rather than actually having committed some moral failures.
Bad Lieutenant definitely counts but unfortunately I've seen it.

First moment I think of redemption -Reprise- popped out. One of the few movies redemption of the character was also redeeming for me.

I guess Scorsese is obligatory? Primarily: Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Bringing out the Dead.
+1 Bad Lieutenant, just as much of a classic as those though.

Black Snake Moan, The Devil's Advocate, 3:10 to Yuma, Eyes Wide Shut, The Jerk (heh). Not as many as I'd have thought really.

Good call. All of Scorsese's movies are about characters looking for redemption. He's said that himself in a couple of interviews I've seen him in.
