The 2025 BASE Awards - That's a Wrap!

On November 13th, the Camden Roundhouse was the scene of the 2025 BASE Awards, celebrating excellence in the sector of Home Entertainment. Among the 30 categories in which awards were handed out was Hidden Gems, a category sponsored by a little website you might have heard of (spoiler: us! It was us!)

The winner of this year's Hidden Gem award, which was voted upon by the public, was Lightbulb Films's Hundreds of Beavers. A worthy champion, if you ask us! This madcap adventure was one of the Criticker team's favorite discoveries of the past year, and we were thrilled to see that it was the people's choice for the best under-the-radar title of the year. 

It was exciting to see Criticker's logo on the screen, and popping up on the photo backdrops alongside names like Disney, Tivo, and Universal. Pretty soon, we're going to be just as well-known as those companies! Pretty soon, we're going to be able to buy them! Yes, we have ambitious plans here at Criticker HQ, and some of them involve world dominance. I'd say we're on our way.

Of course Hidden Gems was far from the only category recognized at this year's BASE awards. Other big winners on the night included Warner Bros. Discovery for Best Distributor, Dune: Part Two for Biggest Title, BFI's release of Seven Samurai as Best Blu-ray.

Maybe the biggest award of the night was for the People's Choice for Best Entertainment Moment of the past 45 years. Talk about a category with a lot of worthy competition! But the people have spoken, and chosen Darth Vader telling Luke "I am your father" in The Empire Strikes Back as the best pop culture moment in recent history.
