She leaves for New York in order to get a job and pay back her three guardians but doesn't know they have found gold and are holding it in trust for her. She gets a job as an elevator girl at a radio station and meets Phil Bradley (Allan Jones) whose singing voice is used for that of Tim Winters.

Singing Johnny Norton is the star catcher of the Blue Sox baseball team but he is suspended because of insubordination. Producer Barney Crane hears Johnny singing and signs him to appear with Gloria Jackson, with the promise their first engagement will be in Havana. Johnny, hoping to get his baseball job back, is anxious to get to Cuba where the Blue Sox are having spring training. Patsy Clark, daughter of Blue Sox owner, Joe Clark, helps Johnny get another chance with the team.

A young woman marries a soldier to fulfill the conditions of a will. However, when she gets ready to divorce him, she realizes that she actually loves him, and determines to find a way to stay married to him.

MGM hosts a salute to Will Rogers (1875-1935) shortly after his death. After a few words from Gary Cooper and Harry Carey, a look at Rogers' fatal trip with Wiley Post, clips from Rogers' movies, a proclamation from Oklahoma's governor, and a cowboy ballad sung at sunset. Robert Taylor asks the studio audience to contribute to the Will Rogers Memorial Hospital in Saranac Lake, NY, where those in the entertainment industry could go for treatment.
