Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) - Rated 25 Aug 2026
Somewhat better shot than Monty Python's Holy Grail, and about as well-edited, but not quite as funny. The disregard for storytelling conventions and complete absence of setup for action moments lend a bizarre, amateurish, and disjointed-feeling to the whole experience. The conquistador who intones “The long arrows are getting fashionable” before toppling over, fatally skewered, is truly hilarious! We found it to be quite a hoot, but I'm perplexed by the superlatives heaped upon it here.
