Great fun. The pacing, the parallel investigation, the goof-troop cop squad. Billy Connolly as the essence of cool. The performance of Dafoe's life. So quotable. Vulgar? Yes. Excessive? Yes. Sometimes you want a cheeseburger.

True Romance (1993) - Rated 09 Feb 2023

Underrated, under-appreciated Tarantino. The very best rom-com for guys. A "true romance." Can't beat a start with kung fu, hookers, and comic books. Nonsensical plot movements. Gary Oldman as a white-boy drug dealer. Elvis as an imaginary friend. That Denis Hopper to Christopher Walken trailer speech--maybe some of QT's best character writing.

The Mexican (2001) - Rated 09 Feb 2023

Crime rom-com w Pitt, Roberts, and Gandolfini. Who wouldn't want to see that? Love the bits of flashback to magic pistol lore.

I want the jacket. I want that economy of words and depth of feeling.

Nothing like it. Nothing better in its sphere. Not even close. Visual style. Android-noir.
