"Too messy and scatterbrained. The first 5 minutes showed nothing but walking and running that had no bearing whatsoever to anything in the movie. Where's the plot? What's the plot? Well, there was none. Above all, the sound scoring was horrible. I wonder why it was made into a film at all. It's a waste of everything, including viewers' time. It's a total garbage! "If only its werewolves weren't hairless like squids (as if they were borrowed from the 2005 movie "The Descent"), The Cursed could have been a perfect horror flick. Its outdoor cinematography is superb--I like it so much; its musical scoring great; its pacing just right. These elements fit the era when the events were supposed to happen. "Similar to Blair Witch Project but using CCTVs to record the paranormal. Its mystique lies in blending religious history, esoteric symbolism, and atheistic modernity. Love its laidback English country setting, which heightens the thrill and somehow lends credence to the story especially the end part, which pushed me to search the net if it ever happened in real life. He fires words like a machine gun, and flowering them with comic body language and facial expression, he always nails down his message with a hearty laughter from the audience. But the film took too long to unravel it, causing ennui along the way. Worse, if you weren't coming from a rich country, you'd wonder what on earth these spoiled brats were complaining about? "First half is OK, and the rest is dragging. Spent so much time on desert scenes, repeating the same piece of wasteland for so long it weakened the story's coherence. The director should have simply narrated the gold rush adventure, just like what he did at the end when the main actor passed away. That part was cool (perhaps because I was already bored?) "A child's play turned into hitech movie and wonderfully executed! Unabated suspense. Trickles of info to decode each maze secret. The will to survive over the numbing sting of fear. "The setting was a plus, but the werewolves were a dismal flop with their obvious suits bought from a rundown toy shop. The hairy suits were so fitting they etched the actors' fat round legs instead of thin bowed doggy limbs. Cheap crap. Wait... is this a horror flick or a comedy? "So much emotion was invested in this movie, but somehow it couldn't translate it to the viewers to evoke the same from them. Its added supernatural side further alienated its audience (except perhaps for the few who are superstitious). It's a far cry from "Shawshank Redemption", which was also shot in prison among hardened criminals, but was superbly done.
