The scene where they're about to put him on the electric chair and he says he's scared in the dark.. I cried like a baby there. That's one of the best and most emotional scenes in movie history. This movie is as close to perfection as one can be. I didn't like this movie, I loved it!

The greatest anti-death row movie ever made. Sure, most of the people on the death row are murderous, rapist psychopaths, but given the chance, for whatever reason, they might - just might - lunge at you from the confines of their cage, grab you in the groin and cure your pisser. Are we really willing to risk letting these men die?

Excels in almost every catergory. All actors involved play their roles superbly, the interaction between Hanks and Duncan has been totally perfected and the film adaptation of the King book simply couldn't be any better. If you enjoyed The Shawshank Redemption, this should be your next port of call.

This film will touch your heart in ways most movies can't. The entire cast was absolutely stellar, but I really enjoyed the late Michael Jeter in this. His role in this film will forever be one of my favorite performances. The Green Mile makes great use of characterization, this film makes you feel sad for the murderers, and question why these men have done what they did. This film will grab a hold of you. If you don't cry at all in this film, you have no soul.

This movie displays the amazing actor that Tom Hanks is. The movie is a classic tear jerker. It combines kind good heartedness with justice being served. At the end of the movie it leaves you wanting more. This movie a major hit for individuals who are looking to spend a night with a box of tissues.

Why is this so popular? I guess it's the comfortably predictable, the division of the world into "good men" and "bad men", the reassuring presence of a gentle giant, non-threatening Magical Negro. The film is shot well enough and the cast does a very admirable job of handling their wafer-thin characters. For a three-hour production it's surprisingly watchable with enough story elements (predictable as they are) to keep moving. But it certainly isn't anything special, and sentimentality is cheap.

How a 3 hour movie based on a not too long book had to feel like it rushed every important scene is beyond me. It's not bad but they fucked so much up.

Does he really need to be a miracle worker--or even innocent--for us to be appalled when the onlookers say things like "die slow, you bastard"? The whole movie is just an excuse for viewers to shed some righteous tears; it's too sentimental and morally clear-cut to provoke any thought.

The Green Mile has a pretty good story and good acting, but the hokey supernatural elements and the cardboard cutout characters make it hard to take it seriously sometimes. And the Jesus allegory is way overdone.

The Gren Mile excels in almost every way. Emotionally and mentally, its a powerful sentimental focus on capital punishement. All the actors are virtually and physically flawless in there performances, particularly Hanks. It's also backed-up with stellar, in-depth photography of the prison along with prodigious directing from Frank Darabont. One of the greatest adaptations ever.

Highly entertaining movie that never really drags or gets boring.I have not read all of the book, but I still thoroughly loved this. Hanks is as good as usual and Michael Clarke Duncan really shines (for once). The supporting cast is all good as well, and the directing and writing are almost perfect. Not a lot of movies bring me to tears, but this one did at least twice my first time watching it. It's up there with The Shawshank Redemption for me. It's probably in my top ten favorite movies.

The Green Mile puts many actors to the test. It shows the comedic abilities of each actor very subtly as they play characters that need to lighten up their very serious and sad occupations or situations. It is inherently a very dramatic film, the story for which is very touching, and the actors all brought the right emotion to the screen to truly develop that story. Really good!

I'm in Heaven when I see a movie this good. Normally I would look at a run-time of a film set at 3 hours and 9 minutes and sigh, but this film hardly feels long at all. I love the time period that the movie is set in, I love the wide variety of cast members and characters. The costumes are great, the music is great. There is also an excellent bad guy... Percy. I would put him in my top ten best villains in a film...

Eternal life, the tragedy of disease, the nature of man, the longing for death, our legal system, moral truths, punishment vs communication, the golden rule... The merely adequate performances and a middle-of-the-road production can't make up for this films discontinuous, albeit related, themes. Overall it was a decent flick, but by no means did it make an impression of its purpose. If you're looking for a mediocre, 3 hour long, supernatural, 1990's Hollywood-style heart wrencher... this is it.

Under rated and under seen. Fascinating and moving story with some difficult viewing at times. James Cromwell delivers a wonderful performance closely followed by Tom Hanks. Mistakes - 1) During one scene, Hanks mentions a hospital intensive care unit, which did not exist in the 1930's. 2) The movie is set in 1935 Lousiana, and all of the executions are through electrocutions. However, executions by that method in that state didn't happen till 1941. 3) When John first steps into the bedroom at Hal's house, Melinda's nightdress is up by her thigh. Yet in the next shot, it is down over her knees.

Many powerful moments are scattered into a movie that isn't quite as overlong as some claim. Michael Clark Duncan is fantastic as the innocent, benevolent behemoth, and Hanks is fine as always. Some truly disturbing scenes of capital punishment underscore the film and add to it.

"When I stand before God, and He asks me why did I kill one of his true miracles, what am I gonna say?" - this quote is a true summary of the movie's atmosphere and message, Everybody told me that this picture is about a prison guard in a death row. While technically true I'd say the picture is mainly about the value of human life, finding miracles in it and most of all: About finding the courage to do good when you have every good reason to commit evil. Must watch for everyone.

Tom Hanks delivers a softly unaffected performance as the Depression-Era 'boss' of a Southern Death Row, with a stellar ensemble cast including James Cromwell, David Morse, Barry Pepper, Bonnie Hunt, Dabs Greer, the uniquely macabre Sam Rockwell and the late Michael Jeter; though Michael Clarke Duncan is not to be outdone in his career defining role of John Coffey. With a little help from Mr. Jingles [the mouse and Thomas Newman], Frank Darabont's lyric delight keeps up to Shawshank's hit rate!

I'm not sure if this film caught me in a sentimental mood, or it is actually as good as it can get. It was a film with very deep and true feeling, that really touches people and makes them feel with all thoose charaters within. Acting was wonderfull through-and-through, especially the villians (I love good villians, lol). The problem is, that pretty much that's it. It didn't made me think, it didn't change a thing about my life. It was entertainment. A very high level of it, but nothing more.

Darabont is an excellent filmmaker when it comes to making you hate and love certain characters (especially hate), but here I found it too mechanical, along with some of the other plot-points. It's also overlong and indulgent for a reasonably simple story to be dragged out over three hours, and I've got some qualms about some of the questionable morals here. Oh well, it's pretty well-made and makes for comfortable viewing.
