I wasn't expecting much from this film at all, probably just a clichéd romcom. I was pleasantly surprised and intrigued by the execution of the storyline, despite the male lead being completely out of touch with his reality. Some dark and troubling themes explored but I think the ending really pulled a punch - just not believeable!

Les Misérables (2012) - Rated 04 Mar 2018

Absolutely entranced from start to finish. People talk a lot about Crowe's vocal performance but I just don't believe it's THAT bad (unless you're comparing him to a West End or Broadway performer). This film does a great job of helping understand the backdrop to the story and the very real risks that the characters faced. Every musical number is executed wonderfully, easily the best musical movie I've ever seen.

The Greatest Showman (2017) - Rated 04 Mar 2018

While the plot isn't exactly amazing, the songwriting and the performances of Hugh Jackman make this film a stand out musical. It lacks the quality (and most probably budget) of Les Mis but far surpassed my expectations. Catchy songs with an upbeat yet somewhat under-explored plot. Whenever given the opportunity, Zendaya and Efron were brilliant, not enough made of their talents though. The scene with Jackman and Efron in the bar is a choreographic highlight.

The Edge of Seventeen (2016) - Rated 25 Feb 2018

Did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. Harrelson and Steinfeld steal the show and their scenes together are brilliantly acted. The ending wasn't what I would have hoped for...but I suppose what can you expect from a movie about growing up?

New Year's Eve (2011) - Rated 21 Jan 2018

A little bit like Love Actually but without any of the lasting appeal or heartwarming stories. I struggled to find much of this movie funny and thought many of the performances were lazy and unimpressive.

Love Actually (2003) - Rated 01 Jan 2018

I had never seen this film before until last night; what an amazing cast! Being a fan of 'The Walking Dead', Andrew Lincoln is a particular highlight for me. A heartwarming, charming and funny movie (if a little tragic and heatbreaking in places). Hugh Grant delivers a brilliant performance as the Prime Minister and Bill Nighy plays the role of an aging rockstar superbly. Disappointingly a few of the stories don't get enough attention, ending rather abruptly and unsatisfactorily.

The Space Between Us (2017) - Rated 31 Dec 2017

Purely for the feel-good factor, this film is pretty decent. It's a new spin on an old plot, not enough was made of the whole space aspect of the story but it warmed my heart and sometimes that's all that you need.

The Great Wall (2016) - Rated 29 Dec 2017

Obviously a massive budget film, some brilliant action scenes but often severely lacking in character development. I was disappointed with the ending but the mostly an alright film.

Passengers (2016) - Rated 29 Dec 2017

Not as good as I desperately wanted it to be, there were some memorable characters and Jennifer Lawrence can never go far wrong. The storyline felt a little predictable so not an amazing movie but held my interest.

Moana (2016) - Rated 29 Dec 2017

Loved the music, heartwarming story with really progressive themes, loved the fact that Moana wasn't limited by her gender and really made me think about different cultures.
