MATTYT

Many people refer to this film as holding "a like it or hate it" quality - I can see where they are coming from, although I find very little to admire in this film. Tom Cruise's performance is over-rated as he portrays an egocentric jerk (little acting involved, surely), the cast is superb on paper and the reason I bought the movie in the first place. The bad language is unneccessary, the lengthy unwinding of the tale is ridiculous and the climax unrewarding.

Gangs of New York (2002) - Rated 30 Dec 2008

Very disappointing. Didn't really give a fresh insight into America and in parts seemed to be presented in a post apocolyptic world. The fight scenes are glamorised (they are blood thirsty but gimmicky) and the only master-stroke scorcese pulls here is casting D-D Lewis who is brilliant as always.

Perhaps Pacino's best performance. My only gripe is that it can drag it's tail a little in parts but brilliant none the less.

Absolutely brilliant. Caine was made for this role. Hilarious and charming, great interaction between characters and beatifully filmed in 60's London. Caine aptly fluctuates between barefaced cheek and flirt to loneliness and despair effortlessly. Much better than i thought it would be
