Grey Gardens (1975) - Rated 03 Aug 2026
Hauntingly tragic and oh so charming at the same time. Criterion Challenge 2026: 3. Watch a film with a color in the title

Lady Snowblood (1973) - Rated 03 Aug 2026
The immense spurts of bright red blood, the random reporter with the most early 70s hair accompanied with the most early 70s music, every moment that Meiko Kaji is on screen, the camera work, the umbrella weapon?? every part of it is just amazing. Genuinely might be the best revenge film. Criterion Challenge 2026: 25. “Good For Her” Cinematic Universe

Notorious (1946) - Rated 03 Aug 2026
This really just did nothing for me. The romance between the two leads just doesn't feel very believable, I'm supposed to believe they're in love while not ever really being shown them being in love. To add to that, they're also bad spies?? Maybe it's because 1940s romances aren't really my favourite anyway, but I just truly don't see what everyone else seems to see in this film. This was a very disappointing experience. Criterion Challenge: 20. Kathryn Bigelow’s Closet Picks

Pretty Lethal (2026) - Rated 03 Aug 2026
The plot is for the most part clichéd and not very strong, with it mostly being. But the leading performances are good, the five leading actresses work together very well in this, and the ballet/fight scenes are really fucking cool. There's also some very nice shots and pretty scenery, and I honestly think those things make up for a quite a few of its weak points, to end with a really fun action-horror film.

The Cat Returns (2002) - Rated 03 Aug 2026
My friend insisted we watch this and I don't know if I trust his taste in film anymore :/ This was fun, the naked cats walking is absolutely uncanny and terrifying and I absolutely hate to see it but besides that its just weird and charming enough to be a fun time.

Sunset Boulevard (1950) - Rated 03 Aug 2026
Gloria Swanson totally carries this entire picture, I missed her every second that she wasn't on the screen. Kind of slogged a little in the middle but the third act makes up for that.

The Invisible Man (2020) - Rated 03 Aug 2026
Probably one of the best horror remakes in recent years. Does a really good job at making you feel tense and absolutely miserable.

The Ugly Stepsister (2025) - Rated 03 Aug 2026
The film does get to a point where it starts to feel almost repetitive, but it was still a really good and beautiful looking film. I like that they humanized the characters without whitewashing their behaviour towards 'Cinderella'. I do think we really needed a body horror fairytale retelling, and I'm glad this is the one it ended up being.

Triangle of Sadness (2022) - Rated 03 Aug 2026
Man this was not.. at all enjoyable. The commentary is very in your face while also telling you absolutely nothing. It's about as deep as a puddle. There are so many films that are critiques of rich people or capitalism, so when do it yourself, you actually have to do something with it. The humour did not do anything for me, at all. I personally do not find people throwing up and shitting themselves for like 10 minutes of screen time to be funny, but maybe that's just my taste. Besides ... - Full Review
