75 79% Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020) - Rated 30 Sep 2020
"Plot-wise, it's an absolute mess just like the previous Bill & Ted movies, but as a joyous piece of weirdness it kinda works. Everyone works to make it fun, apart from Keanu who seems constantly constipated throughout."
80 86% Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020) - Rated 27 Jun 2020
"Despite the comedy vacuum that is Will Ferrell, this holds up surprisingly well. There's a real understanding and appreciation of the insanity that is the ESC, that consistently comes across throughout the movie."
20 22% The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018) - Rated 17 Feb 2019
"Swedish Batwoman goes on a mission to steal back a dangerous hacker program that could threaten the world, despite the fact she has the most powerful hacker tools known to woman that can completely compromise any electronic system in seconds."
90 96% Annihilation (2018) - Rated 17 Feb 2019
"A shamefully overlooked sci-fi/horror. An intelligent sci-fi movie with a well-developed all-female cast should have been a break-out hit in the supposedly progressive world we live in, but this didn't even make it to cinemas here in the UK. It's a little heavy-handed at times with its metaphors, but it's a truly fantastic piece of cinema."
70 72% Cam (2018) - Rated 17 Feb 2019
"Would be a solid mid-tier episode of Black Mirror if said show allowed boobs. At times it seems a bit future dystopian but since it was written by an ex-camgirl I'm willing to accept that weird niche of internet culture is precisely as bizarre and disturbing as it's portrayed in this movie."
35 39% Bird Box (2018) - Rated 17 Feb 2019
"A horrifying event breaks out in Russia and spreads across the globe. Anyone who witnesses it is driven insane to the point of suicide, except for a small number of CHUDs who embrace the madness and want everyone else to revel in its glory. This harrowing documentary of the release of the Trump piss tape is not for everyone."
70 72% A Ghost Story (2017) - Rated 16 Feb 2019
"The kind of indie movie I should utterly hate, but this really works. It starts incredibly slowly, but this is intentional as the slow start juxtaposes with how the movie plays with time as it goes on. I watched this fully expecting to hate it for being the kind of indie movie I despise, but it turned out to be a very poignant exploration of loss."
75 79% iZombie (2015) - Rated 01 Dec 2018
"Basically Veronica Mars but with more brain-eating. It follows the same format, crime-of-the-week being solved by a spunky young heroine and her associates, with smart twists and razor-sharp dialogue, while a slow-burning season arc is slowly uncovered. Not the greatest thing ever to hit TV screens, but it's a winning formula and very watchable. I've no idea what the fuck they were smoking when they came up with that show title though."
90 96% The Good Place (2016) - Rated 01 Dec 2018
"Really hits above its weight in delivering a quirky sitcom. First season is really strong and it just gets better. It's sometimes a little too "oh look how clever we are", but it never gets in the way of delivering a constant stream of great humour. It also manages the rare trick of turning utterly horrible characters into people you care about. And Bad Janet boosted the score by 10 points alone."
60 61% The Rain (2018) - Rated 01 Dec 2018
"I'm a sucker for anything post-apocalyptic and also bleak Scandinavian drama, so this should have been extremely my thing. But the story has been done better many times before and anyone familiar with the genre can see the major plot developments coming a kilometre off. Still, it's good Netflix background viewing thanks to the nice cinematography and fantastic soundtrack. I'd definitely watch a second season."
