A stunning achievement in cinematagraphy and writing, this film captures the essence of motion pictures as art. Max's character is intensely complex with depth that is difficult to portray on film. The story of his struggle, achievement, and ultimate sacrifice is an allegory for the struggle we all face in defining what is really important in life. A triumph of film genius, with a score by musical genius Clint Mansell, this movie is a must see for all true film connoisseurs.

Full Metal Jacket (1987) - Rated 17 Nov 2009

I really don't know how to rate this film. It has deep characters and an intense theme with a strong story. But many of the elements of the movie are, to be totally cliche, "Hard core". It's a brutal movie that tells a brutal story in a brutal way. The defining question is "Is this a story that needs to be told?" and I'm not sure that it is. But if you like drama and don't mind gore, and if you can handle the brutal telling, it could be worth watching.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) - Rated 17 Nov 2009

This could be an Uwe Boll film. Except, honestly, Uwe's more recent movies have been better than this one. Poor acting, bad directing, and a plot torn straight from the pages of "bad film school", this film has poor characterization and little depth; badly spoken lines and just plain bad acting; and I won't touch the special effects with a 10 foot pole - I've MADE better CGI for video games. Still, it's got stuff blowing up and hot girls...

Castle In The Sky (1986) - Rated 17 Nov 2009

Anything by Hayao Miyazaki deserves full credit for originality, depth, rich settings and loveable characters. Castle in the Sky is no different and spins a wonderful tale in a fantastic world. Miyazaki's intense focus on ecological themes in all his films can sometimes get tiresome, but it's not overly done in this case and it's a theme worth sharing.

Glory (1989) - Rated 17 Nov 2009

A true-to-life depiction of some of the struggles that Civil War soldiers faced, and more yet those struggles that blacks faced in that time. Exceptionally well done with characters that reach into your heart and bring you into the film with them. A film with an impact made even more profound because of the true story it is based on.

The Fountain (2006) - Rated 17 Nov 2009

Richly complex in its filmography and artistic style, the fountain is overflowing with deep emotion and thoughtful expression. A sad tale of grief, pain, and the process of learning to live in the face of death. Underrated by those who don't understand its metaphorical presence, The Fountain is a film that achieves the impossible: expressing in 90 minutes the love it took a lifetime to build and eternity to understand.

Date Movie (2006) - Rated 17 Nov 2009

Probably the worst movie I ever saw. The only movie I've ever walked out of. 20 minutes of stupidity and enuendo was all I could stand, and I can only think that I should have left sooner. If you're amused by gutter humor and trash, this might be worth pirating. But for money, it's not worth the plastic disc it was printed on.

Pride and Prejudice (1995) - Rated 17 Nov 2009

A true-to-the book adaptation of Jane Austen's classic, with superb acting and directing and most importantly the TIME necessary to bring Austen's characters to life. 6 hours long, but worth every minute and especially enjoyable by fans of the novel. The story is as compelling and the characters are as deep and dynamic as written by Austen, and portrayed by the perfect cast. A timeless classic.

A truly amazing story and one that, just possibly, could happen. A story of two people who were never meant to fall in love and who build the greatest love because of it. Fully of comedy and romance and fun for people of all ages, it's a perfect movie from start to finish.
