Its central message deeply resonates and is perfect for our time: In a world of endless negativity and sardonic social media meanness, trying to be a genuinely good person is our generation's punk rock. It's telling that Gunn cast the Kent parents as very plain and utterly unglamorous (unlike in the Snyder movies), and that the title character's fondest memories are simple family moments that are seemingly popular to sneer at."
