This highly popular and deeply racist film strongly contributed to the "othering" of Egyptians, and by extension, the Middle East. This is Orientalism at it's most blatant and damaging.

Ham-handed comedy (at times bordering on slapstick) permeates this misguided, overlong World War II story. The stereotypes are as broad and dumb as possible: the Nazis are idiotic, cartoonish buffoons and the Americans are tough, manly, and daring. The film is a jingoistic propaganda piece that has little artistic value.
