Kanata no Astra (2019) - Rated 28 Jun 2025
It starts off a little slower, with poorer world building, but once your past that first episode, what follows is an adventury through space and, in a sense, even time. The characters are very distinct, with the addition of an intersex character into the mix, and the dynamics are largely fun and wholesome. The world's are intriguing, I just wish we got more of more of them, you know? The ending is a touch rushed, but otherwise satisfying. Full of mystery and frenship, it's an enjoyable watch.

Black Clover (2017) - Rated 28 Jun 2025
While imperfect — with animation issues due to it being a long-running series —, and at times midly obnoxious (thanks, Asta), this series has a lot of fun characters to offer, a relatively easy to follow power system, a solid plot, great character dynamics, amazing voice actors, and when the fighting begins (particularly later in the series) the animation pops off. With solid humour, cool action, good emotional beats, it's easy to fall in love with.

How to Train Your Dragon (2025) - Rated 28 Jun 2025
How about no? Not only did we not need this, but they turned the dragon designs either more ugly or generic (Toothless, my boy!), they gave Hiccup a hoodie, and Snotlout some nasty orange fur thing, the acting direction was not there, they hired an (adult) actor that's also working on the adaptation of HP (whose book author is a TERF), both the sound and the visuals were weaker, they took out some important moments, while adding in pointless ones (some didn't make sense).

Lilo & Stitch (2025) - Rated 28 Jun 2025
So anyway... they butchered the crucial aspects of the story. On the plus side, Stitch could've looked worse, I suppose, and the child actress wasn't that bad. (But I think better direction was still needed with her.)

Lilo & Stitch (2002) - Rated 28 Jun 2025
Though the first few minutes were not so entertaining, the commander was interesting, and once we got to Earth and the movie really got going, it was an emotional rollercoaster with great designs and animation, wonderful voice acting that gave characters individuality and a touching story about found family, friendship and sticking together in the face of adversity. Each of the characters contributes a little something to the story, and each is enjoyable in their own way, especially Stitch.

KPop Demon Hunters (2025) - Rated 28 Jun 2025
Stunning art and animation, great music, good acting... I just wish we had something more to differentiate the Saja Boys with other than looks (outside of the main one), and that the ending were different. Still, I have the delusional hope that we'll get a sequel and those gremlins will come back. Loved the girl trio! I know this is probably a one-and-done thing, but I would so give a sequel a shot! (Or a series! K-Pop Demon Hunters seems like such a series-friendly concept.)

How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) - Rated 28 Jun 2025
Somehow they managed to upgrade on the animation — although sadly a more doggy Toothless marks the start of a downward trend for his character (but it's still good here!) —, and with a well-executed emotional gut punch, that leads to Hiccup proving why he's one of the best protagonists in animation; more importantly, this movie further emphasises their bond and refers to them as brothers. Even Hiccstrid is better here. However, maybe Valka is forgiven a little too quickly. (Loved her, though.)

How to Train Your Dragon (2010) - Rated 28 Jun 2025
This movie is ALMOST perfect. The animation knocks it out the park, even for a 15 y/o movie. The sound design and OST is stunning. The voice acting is pretty much perfect. My only complaint is that the romance with Astrid feels rushed. I can't say I even blame her for disliking Hiccup for outdoing her even though she's taken dragon training more seriously from the get-go, but they go from animosity to love a little too quickly. I think they could've left the romance for later.

Toy Story 2 (1999) - Rated 28 Jun 2025
This is an okay movie that does well at telling what it needs to. I don't think it's a visual stunner the way other movies are, and that's fine, the characters don't interest me as much — but that's fine —, but it paved the way for better movies in Pixar, for which it deserves credit.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019) - Rated 28 Jun 2025
I would argue that only the overall, voice acting visuals and music save this from an absolute zero, but even those are a downgrade. Yes, in the prettiness department this movie is "pretty", alright. It's made to sell figures (especially with the light fury), marketing itself as this mature story about letting go, when in reality it undercuts the built up bonds and the messages of fighting for what is right from previous movies and series. At times it makes no sense, at times it's unsufferable.
