"Deeply disturbing and stylish, one of the more unique films I've seen lately."
90 91% Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015) - Rated 18 Jan 2016
"This movie was awesome. What more do you want, you cynical asshole?"
69 44% Krampus (2015) - Rated 19 Dec 2015
"Fun movie with good effects."
86 81% Bernie (2012) - Rated 28 Nov 2015
"Dark comedy which uses "mockumentary" elements to really charming and blackly funny effect. I was a little drunk when I saw this so perhaps I'm overrating it, but I thought the film had a lot of heart, and Jack Black's performance was terrific."
80 64% Sophie's Choice (1982) - Rated 27 Nov 2015
"Streep's performance here is as good as they say it is. Kline is also great. The photography is good as well, and it's overall a very well done film."
73 53% Brooklyn (2015) - Rated 12 Nov 2015
"Well-made & warm-hearted film about a young Irish immigrant torn between America and home. Very good performance by the lead actress."
52 19% The Martian (2015) - Rated 01 Nov 2015
""Just ok" for me. The tone was kind of all over the place - dark/tense thriller or silly comedy? Pick one. Also the writing/dialogue was weak and filled with cliches. The film was bloated and over-long. That said, parts of it (esp. the first act) were fun, and the effects were fantastic. Matt Damon is likable, of course. Gravity was much better."
69 44% Goosebumps (2015) - Rated 18 Oct 2015
"A good, light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek horror-comedy for kids. Jack Black puts in a good comedic performance and it's a surprisingly well-made movie all around."
55 21% Restoration (1995) - Rated 26 Sep 2015
"It was like watching two different movies. The first half was fun, playful, and charming, as we follow Robert Downey Jr.'s escapades in the king's court. The second half was sappy, ham-handed, and boring, as everything we liked about his character disappears and way too many plot elements (romance, childbirth, the burning of London) are shoehorned in too quickly and superficially. The art direction, however, was consistently terrific throughout the film."
75 56% Ragtime (1981) - Rated 13 Sep 2015
"A nice adaptation of the great Doctorow novel. The best thing about the film is the wonderful sets, costumes, and general recreation of pre-WWI New York. Performances were good, and it was engaging throughout its longish length."
