I Saw the TV Glow (2024) - Rated 25 Jun 2024
"There is a lot of talent on display in this film. The acting is top notch, the cinematography is great, there are lots of examples of internal framing, it makes beautiful use of color. It is a shame that the movie had it's head too far up it's own ass to be entertaining. With an artsy film like this you still need to keep the viewer engaged. The movie has too many talking head scenes, downtime, and way too little pay off for the slow burn it provides. What a waste of talent and my time."

Monkey Man (2024) - Rated 10 Jun 2024
"A great action film. It makes you wait for the action but the pay off is worth it. It earns its runtime."

Road House (2024) - Rated 10 Jun 2024
"They decided to remake Road House but this time it's gritty, sleek, and modern. So they completely fucked up Road House. Another remake that misses the point entirely."

Barbie (2023) - Rated 10 Jun 2024
"It's like the Lego Movie... for Girls! Seriously though, it gives me vibes of The Lego Movie, which is a good thing. This is a good movie based off of literally a toy, which is a hard thing to do. What makes it easier is that this movie had something to say. Just like how The Lego Movie found a story to tell stemming from the ethos of the product, Barbie likewise found a commentary to strike upon. The visuals are on point, and worth rewatching for that alone. Pretty good movie. Best picture? Nah"

Cocaine Bear (2023) - Rated 10 Jun 2024
"A lukewarm attempt at a grindhouse film. All you had to do was give a bear cocaine and let a bunch of crazy shit happen. With a movie like this, you have to crank it up to 11. They cranked it up to about 6. This is a mid movie, which in this context, where the premise of this movie is to be shocking and action packed, means it is a bad movie. it missed the mark. Cocaine Bear committed the cardinal sin of cinema: it was boring. This movie is more like Dayquil Bear."

Renfield (2023) - Rated 10 Jun 2024
"Not enough CAGE. Not even memeing. He is by far the best part of this film and there's not enough of him. It's from the assistant's perspective, but the narrative revolves around Cage, and he isn't utilized enough. I have nothing against Awkwafina but the entire romantic sublot revolving around her was useless and did nothing but bog the story down. Every mainstream movie needs romance so chuck that shit on the timeline. Could have been much better, still worth watching."

Oppenheimer (2023) - Rated 10 Jun 2024
"It's not the best picture of 2023. It's not even Christopher Nolan's best film. I don't want to dog on it super hard but I like "Memento" better than this. For a 3 hour movie, it moves fast. The dialogue scenes are cut quickly, it attempts to have Aaron Sorkin's fast, quippy dialogue, but it lacks charm, wit, and nuance. The movie is a bunch of people having conversations so important they have to talk quickly. It has interesting points to make about humanity and the bomb, but I won't rewatch."

Old Dads (2023) - Rated 10 Jun 2024
""Maybe I'm the one who's wrong? No... it's the children, the children are wrong." This film is "Old Man Yelling at Cloud" the movie. It is the epitome of someone saying, "You just can't say jokes anymore!" and when you hear their jokes, none of them are funny. The movie consists of Bill Burr and his cohorts dismantling the most unrealistic strawman opponents. I wanted to like this film, I love Bill Burr's standup; his standup did not translate to a good movie. Avoid at all costs."
