Donnie Darko

After multiple rewatches through the years, have appreciated this movie even more. I’ve come to the opinion this is ultimately a morality tale, wrapped up in an entertaining veneer of time-travel and teenage angst.
In the end, Donnie chooses “Love” - sacrificing himself for the salvation of mankind, instead of the “Fear” of death. The initial timeline he finds himself in is not the righteous path, and ultimately corrupts and harms all of those around him. The juxtaposition of the two acts seen in the school talent show, and the respective reaction by the audience/judges confirmed it for me. There are angels and demons influencing him throughout.

The film has an interesting idea, but it’s never fully developed throughout the story. That wouldn’t be a problem on its own, if not for the logical gaps that push the film into...
