The Rip

I don't know what it is...the inflationay use of twists in modern moviemaking or that they're not implemented carefully enough. Big twists and reveals are only worth it if you properly embed them in the pacing of the movie, and if you meticulously account for inconsistenices. I don't know about the latter in this case, but the timing of this one was a little weird and sudden. It sort of turned into a different movie at that point, tonally. Like it tried to by a Christopher McQuarrie Mission Impossible film or something. Whose twists are kind of sort of not the carefully implemented type, at least in my book.
But the first half of the movie had me too well, and the tonal shift wasn't horrible or anything. It was just a little...eyebrow-raising and going "Hmm...ok, I guess", and it kept an overall really good movie from being even (a little bit) better.
