Nobody Knows

This is my fifth Hirokazu Kore-eda film and I can honestly say that I think his film Shoplifters ruined all his other movies for me. This is honestly a great movie with a lot of amazing technical work and acting. The issue is that this is about 25 minutes too long and is quite boring pretty consistently. This also has the same issues of films based on real events where the real events are way more interesting. I am not asking movies to be like Antropoid, but can they at least be interesting, and if not, to be nice, short, and sweet?

Boring

I am watching this 8 months later from when I first watched it and I felt even more bored with this and knowing everything that happens in this does not make it anymore interesting. This is a boring slog and the real story this is based on is so much more interesting story and a much quicker read this then even half of this movie. Is it really too much to ask that real stories are either interesting or short. This one is neither and suffers from it.
The mom is a real piece of work and it's plainly just awful to see children treated like this way. This is number 57 on Letterboxd so why don't I give it a 5.7/10 just to be cheeky. I would give it a 5/10, but it's still really well crafted and I love the characters well enough. This just is not at all interesting or what I want from a movie.
