Obsession

I thought this was really fantastic. It could’ve so easily been a one-note concept film in the vein of Wish Upon, Would You Rather, or Countdown but it has such a fresh, unique flavour to it. It’s extremely refreshing to see a film play with the form in a way that feels genuinely new. It flips from horror to comedy and vice versa without ever feeling out of place, a balance I’ve seen botched in the genre so many times. Extra points for the time manipulation and Butoh physicality. The scene in the corner of the bedroom had me feeling a way I rarely feel as a desensitised nutjob. Very Pulse (2001) coded. The few moments I didn’t click with were overshadowed by the overall quality for me. Loved it!
