One Battle After Another
Really fun and fast-paced, with great energy throughout. The vibes are spot-on, and the performances are outstanding. Sean Penn goes full Dennis Hopper mode and it’s electric.
My main critique is that it feels less probing in its character work. One of the things I admire about PTA is his ability to tap into the psyche of his characters. Here, while the people on screen feel lived-in, I found myself wishing the film dug deeper into their inner worlds. Everyone’s motives are clear, but at times it comes across a little one-dimensional in that regard.
