This is a good film, but I never found it to be among the best work of either Paul Thomas Anderson or Leonardo DiCaprio. Anderson remains a gifted filmmaker, and DiCaprio delivers a strong performance, yet neither reaches the heights we've seen from them before.

The film is engaging and well-crafted, but for all of its ambition, I found it less memorable than many of Anderson's previous projects. I appreciated it more than I admired it, which is not something I often say about his work.

I was also surprised by the amount of awards attention it received, especially when compared to Sinners, which I thought was the considerably stronger film. While One Battle After Another is certainly well made, I suspect some of its acclaim stems from the timeliness of its themes surrounding immigration enforcement and its broader anti-government messaging. Overall, it's a solid film, but not one that I would rank among the best from either its director or star.
