A tight little pill reminding us about the horrors of colonialism and classism, cautioning us about unbridled capitalists and even a light brush with nationalism and religious zealotry, alll swaddled up in the American cheese of Bong Joon-Ho's excellent knack for comedic timing and Robert Pattinson's incredible range; we love to see it. It was refreshing to see a sci-fi where the native inhabitant(s) of a planet weren’t inherently bad or vicious, despite their appearances — really drove home the angle. The human/beast interaction here really makes me want to watch Okja. Solid world building and excellent machine/environment design within the ship. Random Thoughts - Loved the two distinct personalities that we got for the Mickeys. From meek to headstrong, from reluctant to violent, and from virtuous to straight-up goblin. - Mark Ruffalo playing two self-absorbed, complete and total assholes in two different movies back-to-back! It has been a delight to hate this guy, he makes it so fun. - Toni Collette was such a perfect choice as Ruffalo's partner in crime. Together, they're like a House of Cards caricature. Again, what a delightful, eccentric character to hate. The command she has over her facial expressions 🤌
