Perhaps once considered monumental for its time and it might be so, but for what? Changing cinema? Many cinematography techniques were introduced in this movie for the first time. Non-linear story telling, ceilings, near and far in the same frame. You have to give it that credit. However, besides the influence it has had on cinema, is it truly a good movie? No. The story relies on story telling through character expansion. This means this character must be so interesting for us to hear his story. But his not. There are some complexities through his character. He’s hypocritical and a narcissist deep down who tries to not look like other rich people yet he is worse than all of them. Perhaps the best scene of the movie the last scene were his countless stuff is being burned and also this movie ends. I didn’t gain anything from this movie. There is no message and it’s not interesting enough for me to be engaged. I wish all this revolutionary techniques and innovations were used on a better script and a better movie about something that actually matters.
