Afflicted with what seemed, when I saw it, like a moderate to severe bout of firstfilmitis, but which subsequently seemed, when I saw A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE, more like a terminal case of hesjustnotverygoodorrhea. I got the sense that the final third was intended to resolve the grotesque, fabulistic elements in relatable poignancy, but felt to me a little too tepid and banal. Nevertheless, not difficult to recommend for a few strong and memorable scenes, and a rare expression of something like what was articulated here by the incorrigible Mary MacLane in I AWAIT THE DEVIL'S COMING: "And so it is--do you see?--that all things look different after a satisfying dinner, that the color of the world changes, that life in fact resolves itself into two things: a fine rare-broiled porterhouse steak from Omaha, and some fresh green young onions from California."
