The story gradually builds tension as the contestants are pushed beyond their physical and mental limits, creating a compelling examination of endurance, desperation, and human nature.
Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson are excellent in their roles. Both bring credibility and emotional weight to the material, and their performances give the audience something to invest. Much of the film's impact comes from the strength of their work.
Since the premise raises more questions than it answers, some viewers will likely want a deeper exploration of how this world and competition actually function. Even so, I found the character work strong enough that it rarely detracted from the experience.
